Alpine Lodge is a family owned hotel in St Arnaud, at the gateway to Nelson Lakes National Park, surrounded by the St Arnaud Range at 640 metres above sea level. The property offers self contained apartments, hotel rooms and backpacker accommodation, along with a bar and restaurant serving food made from fresh, locally sourced produce. A playground is available for children, and hiking and biking trails start nearby.
We were staying at a Batch close by, but next time we plan stay at the Alpine Lodge. We came for dinner and it was very good, the staff were all friendly and helpful. A vibrant place in a wonderful location.

A group of us dined at the restaurant. The food was great, the beef burgers looked amazing when they came out. Highly recommend the seared tuna as well. Staff were friendly and the food came out pretty quickly. A great experience.

The Alpine Lodge is along Main Street in St. Arnaud and makes for a good base for those wanting to spend a day or two hiking around the Nelson Lakes area. We recently stayed here for one night. Reservation for a standard room was made directly on the Alpine Lodge website, confirmation was received immediately while we were charged at the end of our stay. Check-in was quick and easy, there is direct parking near the front of the motel room units. Our room was basic and functional, a bit dated but fit for purpose if you just need a place to stay in the St. Arnaud area. There was plenty of space for luggage, a small desk and chair, telly mounted on the wall, bed was ok, rested decently. Bathroom had good space, shower water pressure similarly ok. There is laundry service at the lodge as well. Really liked the lobby bar, outdoor seating area and restaurant at Alpine Lodge. Not a lot of dining options in the area so might be best to make reservations in advance. Dinner was really good, presentable and tasted great. On the whole, the standard rooms are fair enough if you just need a place to sleep while exploring the Nelson Lakes area.

We always love our stays and meals at the Alpine Lodge. While the lodge itself isn't modern, the rooms are cosy and warm with everything you could need and the beds are really comfortable. The meals we have had are always large and delicious, which is great after a long day of hiking, and they have a great wine list.

We stayed here just one night and loved it. After a long drive we arrived to find the air is sweet, the garden well kept, the beer excellent. The owner is friendly and welcoming. Accommodation is simple, very clean and roomy. Evening menu has a good range, portions are good and prices sensible. Been staying at a lot of places on our travels round NZ and this is a gem. Thank you.
