Cobb River Campsite
About
Cobb River Campsite is a basic Department of Conservation site in Cobb Valley, within Kahurangi National Park in the Nelson/Tasman region. It sits beside the Cobb River, with swimming and fishing available, and has 20 non-powered tent sites at the top end of the Cobb Reservoir. Bookings are not required. Dogs are not permitted, and camping is free of charge.

Amazing free camping site! This place is categorized as a freedom campground only for a self-contained vehicle in CamperMate but the official DOC website says it’s for any type of vehicle and tent. The sign at the campground also says using a tent is allowed:) I slept in my tent here. There is a picnic table and drop toilet. The river is the only water supply here. The ground is very flat and has mostly very soft grassy spots. The road from the highway to here is mostly one way and it is not very easy and safe to drive. There is no mobile reception at the campground but there is one bar 2km down the road and full service near the lake, 6km down the road.(Skinny)

A large meadow where camping is free. A clean toilet is available. There are fire pits. The river is a bit cold, but perfect for a quick shower after hiking. Beware! There are many sandflies. Long clothing is recommended. There are countless hikes in the area.
