For Puffed Pedallers

On the Great Taste Trail, our tour operators, Cycle Journeys put us into various bnb’s, all varied which made peddling to our destinations intriguing. This was our last stop and as we had visited Mapua many years ago we were pleased to finish our journey at this delightful town with its collection of eateries. “ For Puff Pedallers” is aptly named as the last 5 minutes is actually an uphill climb to this place, rewarded with a wonderfully welcoming Coralie and her amazing gardens with fantastic view. We were fortunate to be invited by Paul to see his artwork (many media, paintings of portraits and landscape, weaving, especially impressive were 2 Korowai cloaks taking 3 and 2 years respectively to make). I was so very impressed at the Korowai cloaks, the portraits of his mother and great grandmother, the “ godwits “ and Oparara paintings but I’m sure my husband who has a strong interest in art might have his own favourites. Paul’s evident passion and his openness to our opinions was very humbling. Despite other reviews regarding the breakfast provided, we found it adequate with muesli, weetbix, stewed peaches, yoghurt, plunger coffee etc. Yet again, another lovely stay on the Great Taste Trail. We were so lucky to get to chat with Coralie and Paul- the Nankivells are a lovely couple.

What a delightful place, and absolutely lovely people! We felt so at home here. It has an amazing serenity about it and there were such nice details like the delicious home made yoghurt and bottled peaches, Paul's wonderful art, and the beautiful gardens. Coralie and Paul are the kind of people who you meet once and they immediately feel like friends!

Such a delightful getaway to restore and relax. Comfy beds, quiet, spacious, thoughtful touches like robes and garden grown stewed plums for breakfast with cereal and yoghurt, optional bread and spreads. Quick down hill walk to the wharf and four square and onto bike paths. We really enjoyed our stay, thank you Paul and Coralie for having us.
