Idoo Vietnamese Restaurant & Cafe

I’m a Vietnamese American who has traveled NZ for two years. This is one of the best Vietnamese restaurants I’ve ever had in NZ. I’m most impressed by the variety of Vietnamese dishes and coffees on their menu and cabinet. This was the first and possibly only time in NZ I could order Vietnamese flan dessert and egg coffee. I had the chicken pho, which was served in a generous size but not too big. The broth was flavorful and healthy (no MSG). The atmosphere is like being inside the best traditional Vietnamese restaurants in America which, for me, makes it nostalgic and authentic. They played Vietnamese music, had cute pet fish in a tank, and offered a simple yet cozy interior. I was so glad I stopped at this gem of a restaurant, and you should too!

A must try! Well Worth the drive in from Nelson! Staff are so warm and welcoming. Super nice atmosphere. Pork-pork noodles were perfectly cooked, and a generous portion. You must try the salted-cream coffee, it’s incredible.

Absolutely love this place. The pho is to die for—rich, comforting, and you can genuinely taste the love and patience that goes into every bowl. It’s the kind of dish that warms you from the inside out. My husband ordered the beef cheek curry, and wow… it was melt-in-the-mouth tender and packed with deep, incredible flavour. You can tell they really care about their food and take the time to do things properly. If you’re even thinking about trying it—do it. You won’t regret it!

The food is seriously sooo good!! Everything was super flavorful and delicious. The environment is also really comfortable and relaxing. Definitely worth a visit!
