We stayed at this beautiful place about one year ago (this review comes a little late) and are about to go back in a month- showing that we did enjoy our stay a lot! I had a million questions beforehand, which Fran patiently answered. She was incredibly friendly and generous. We were in awe when we arrived at the lodge- amazing views, spaciousness and privacy- this was the perfect place for us (about 7 parents with their toddlers). Unfortunately, the spa-pool was broken, which caused a little disappointment. Fran was incredibly apologetic about this, and I could tell she did her best to resolve the situation. However, it being weekend not much could be done. She offered us a refund, which we never claimed as she was so generous with other things beforehand (e.g. offering us early check-in, late check out at no cost and allowing us to bring all our kids, even though this meant more than 16 humans in the house). We quickly got over our disappointment once the absolutely amazing sauna was ready to go. We enjoyed how the house was set up, loved the linen bed sheets and the launch with deck doors all around, allowing for a great indoor-outdoor flow. We were missing a couple of things, which weren’t a big deal not to have and I am aware this lodge is managed from afar, making this a little more challenging for the owners. We just know for next time to bring those (forks were a little short as we were a full house, a cheese grater and a second towel for the sauna, only one was provided for the bathrooms). We couldn’t have asked for a better place, especially with young kids, who had heaps of space to play while adults could take turns withdrawing to a quiet corner or the sauna. Each family had their own en-suite room with a great shower and amazing views. All in all, this was a luxurious lodge stay for us, which is (at full or nearly full occupancy) at a similar rate or even cheaper compared to other holiday houses in Kaiteriteri/Marahau (a quite expensive area to go for a holiday), but offering so much more – the private spa, sauna and pool, en-suite rooms for everyone and a massive lounge and deck. All of our friends were equally excited about our stay and were eager to join us again this year.

Beautiful scenic views. Relaxing place. Good food, nice setting, friendly staff and owners. Excellent massage, which you need to book in advance.

Amazing stay! Definitely my favorite out of all the places we stayed during our NZ trip. The place has a perfect location. We were lucky to see a great sunrise from our balcony. We will never forget the view. The room was beautiful. Clean. The interior design is quite nicely done. The livingroom and dining area with the open kitchen are also lovely. The breakfast served here was the best. Please see the pictures I upload. We booked and used the outdoor Jacuzzi and the sauna. The view made the experience extraordinary. I loved it. You may be lucky to see the stars while you are in the Jacuzzi. The owner family and staffs are kind and knowledgeable. They gave great info about dining in the nearest town. The lodge also has an outdoor pool and free guest parking lot. The internet speed was good too. I will book my tickets to NZ just to stay at Split Apple Lodge again. Thank you for everything!
