Lake Rotoiti Water Taxi

Hamish took us for a private tour around the lake today with no notice. Just arranged when we arrived. Loved it and would recommend.

We took Hamish's boat on a private one-way trip to Lake head (south end of the lake). This is a great way to walk along one side of the lake (about 3 hours) rather than walking all the way round (about 7 hours). Hamish wasn't busy, so took us right away. It's about 15 minutes on the boat. It's a lovely scenic trip, viewing the hills and forest from the water. Hamish pointed out Whiskey Falls, which are hidden in the forest. We had life vests and the boat felt very safe. The lake is flat calm, so the ride is pleasant. The walk back is enjoyable, through the native forest by the lake. You get views of the lake through the trees. There are opportunities to go to the rocky shore. We even saw a weka (native bird) on the beach, it came right up to us and wasn't afraid at all. The walk is fine for able walkers, we had to climb around/over a couple of fallen trees and used stepping stones across a river. Overall a great afternoon! Thanks Hamish!

Hamish went out of his way to help us. We arrived in very late to Coldwater hut and managed to get a text out to hamish. He came out to us very late at night on the boat and then took us to our car up at Robert ridge. It is such a big thank you to hamish for helping us out.

Hamish took us on a beautiful tour around the lake to see the Nelson Lake National Park from a different angle. It is also a great option to access the further parts of the Park faster.
