Lake Rotoroa Campsite

The scenery is just amazing, the camp owners are very kind, the campsite is perfect to pitch your tent. BUT: SANDFLIES: we read about it, we knew it, we decided to give a try, but it was worst than what we could ever expect. You literally cannot stand somewhere without hundreds of sandlifes around you. We walked around the camp for hours just to avoid them. Wasn’t able to eat without walking around.

Absolute beautiful, tranquil spot. The lake is minutes away, plenty birds and very curious eels at the wharf. The campground is on the small side, but it doesn't seem to be a busy destination. The toilets are very good, a minute walk away. Have to pay at the water taxi office. Had to leave the money in the post box, since there was no one when we arrived and when we've left. Loved it despite the most savage sandflies I've ever experienced.

Nice place. The campground is really small but the host will try to fit you in. Not in the waterfront but just couple of minutes walking. Be aware of the SANDFLIES! Bring spray. Lake is great for water activities.

Great little campground, well maintained and looked after hosts (who run Rotoroa water taxi and there is a basic shop in the office). All area is grassed, easy to pitch a tent ;) a few picnic tables around. I cycled from St. Arnaud over Howards valley and Porika Track - which is not really maintained and you need to walk your bike most of the way: not pleasant, but possible. Refreshing swim in the lake ;) good tip: relatively less sandflies on the jetty
