Māpua Wharf sits at the mouth of the Waimea Estuary, a short 25 minute drive from Nelson, and is home to a collection of restaurants, cafes, galleries and stores. Visitors can eat fish and chips on the wharf, fish off the wharf, or browse stores selling local artisan goods. The Port Māpua Maritime Museum, run by the Māpua Boat Club, documents the wharf's history. A waterfront park and a ferry service to Rabbit Island are also on site.
Face spot! For food, view, vibes and wharf jumping. Took girls there for a swim and Icecream and had fun jumping in. Lovely wee maritime museum and cool spot to people watch, fish or catch ferry to Rabbit Island

Cafes, pub, restaurants, boutique shopping....all in one of the most picturesque locations I have ever been. Even in a sunny winter day in July you can't beat it. Worth the drive.

Mapua Wharf is a wonderful destination that perfectly captures the charm of the Tasman region. Set right on the water, it has a relaxed, vibrant atmosphere with beautiful views across the inlet, boats drifting by, and a real sense of holiday ease. It’s an ideal place to spend a few hours wandering, sitting, and soaking it all in. There’s a great mix of restaurants, cafés, and small shops, a market (on Sunday when we visited) making it easy to find something for everyone. Whether you’re after a casual ice cream, fresh seafood, or a leisurely lunch, the options are varied and inviting. The open spaces are perfect for families, with plenty of room for kids to explore safely while adults enjoy the scenery and food. Overall, Mapua Wharf is a must visit when in the area. As it's scenic, welcoming, and full of character. It’s a place that encourages you to slow down, enjoy good food, and appreciate the beauty of the surroundings.

Fantastic area with several eateries, boutique gift shops, pub, ice cream parlor, the famous Smokehouse offering fish and chips, smoked fish, pate etc and the Mapua ferry. Is also a children's playground. Plenty of parking. Great spot for a afternoon drink in the sun or a meal for lunch or dinner. Totally recommend a visit to the area.
