Stopped for a bit of Kai. Vacuum was going, so waited patiently until someone came to serve me. Lovely fire going and tv going. Made the wait more comfortable. God bless this place and make it prosper.

This is a great place to spend the night! Lovely rooms, warm and quiet! The tavern had beautiful Chinese meal options, fresh and tasty! If you are road tripping with a car, this is a fantastic place to stop!!

Kim, the owner was absolutely fabulous. It's the middle of winter and not much happening anywhere but she welcomed us with open arms. This is a classic road trip pub. Full of character. Absolutely recommend if you can take the time to just slow down and enjoy.

Wonderful couple. Beautiful food. Cosy motels. I stayed here for 3 nights for a work trip. Highly recommended staying the night, or just dining in the hotel.

We stayed here overnight on our way to Golden Bay. We wanted to break our trip rather than spend 8 straight hours driving. It turned out to be a great decision. The motel units are clean and tidy with direct access from the car park. Kath reckons the bed was the most comfortable motel bed she's ever slept in. The stars of the show however are the wonderful hosts and the delights coming out of the kitchen. One of our friends was impressed when a delicious dinner was prepared "off the cuff" to cater for her dietary needs. I had the Sweet and Sour Pork and this was amazing. Others have commented on it and they are right. One of the best, if not the best I've ever had, here in NZ and in Asia. The Owen River Tavern is definitely worth a stop.
