Ratanui Lodge

This is located a 15 minute drive from the north end of the Abel Tasman hike in Pohara ?spelling along the coast. Clean comfortable quiet rooms with an outdoor porch amongst flowers. Pleasant helpful staff. Small clean pool and hot tub. Excellent food at their restaurant. Ebikes included to look around the area. I would love to stay here again!

Fabulous stay at Ratanui Lodge with an exquisite high-end dining experience from Chefs Juan and Carolina. As a group of three adults, we ate two dinners and breakfasts. All meals were perfectly presented and delicious. For dinner we enjoyed the following from their new season menu: Seared tuna, Croquettes and a duo of scallops and salmon as substantial starters / tapas Lamb, pork, local fish green curry and beef bavette for our mains. All dishes were beautifully prepared and presented. Delicious deserts followed with the whole meal complemented by interesting local and regional drinks (especially gins). Service was excellent with all staff knowledgable and helpful about the food, the lodge and local activities. The rooms were modern and well presented. A great experience and the best hotel we have stayed in so far in New Zealand

I booked a room for my wifes 50th Birthday as a little retreat from Nelson. I have travelled to many countries and stayed at some very exclusive hotels around the world, I would have never expected that one of the most memorable experience and best service would be found in our region! The service was exemplary and attention to detail was amazing. I cant thank the staff enough for making this weekend extra special, from the immaculate well furnished room, to the amazing meals served in a beautiful dining room, to a Happy Birthday sung to my wife by the chef, everything was perfect! A true gem in the Golden Bay area! Thank you again to all the staff, Nick, Chiara, The Chef (im sorry i didnt get your name, I was in food nirvana), The wonderful servers and everyone who made this day one to remember for years to come! We will definitely be back again next year to sample the other items on the menu, Thank you again Ratanui Lodge!

My wife and I stopped at Ratanui in Pohara expecting to enjoy a nice meal and a coffee. What we didn’t expect was to be genuinely cared for during a really stressful moment. While van camping through New Zealand, the key to our van snapped off in the lock and we suddenly couldn’t get back into our vehicle. We were stranded and anxious, and Ratanui became our safe haven. Nick was extraordinary — he checked on us regularly to make sure we were okay, offered support and suggestions, and reassured us that we were welcome to stay as long as we needed while we waited for a tow truck. Ciara kindly lent us her phone charger (and they even found another one for us!) so we could keep our phones charged to make calls and sort everything out. Their kindness was genuine, proactive, and meant so much to us. And that’s on top of the fact that the food and coffee were phenomenal — some of the best we’ve had on our trip. Everything was fresh, beautifully prepared, and served with warmth. The space is cozy and inviting, the kind of place that just feels good to be in. We went in for breakfast and ended up being shown real hospitality and care. We felt safe, looked after, and never rushed — a gift in a stressful situation. If you’re anywhere near Pohara, go to Ratanui. The food is outstanding, the coffee is fantastic, and the people have hearts of gold. We didn't stay there but I was standing outside of the rooms while on hold many many times on these calls- and the rooms looked so nice, and their pool and hot tub looked so inviting that I was beginning to think I'd just book and stay there and forget about our van 😂 Thank you, Nick and Ciara — you turned a difficult moment into a reminder of how good people can be. We got back on the road and thanks to Nick and his suggestion to go to Wharariki beach- we had the best day!
