About
River Road Retreat is a truffle farm and self-catering retreat in Appleby, Tasman District. The property hunts Tartufo Nero (Périgord) truffles with a dog, hand-harvesting from late May to August, and sells truffle products such as salt and chili paste. Guests can use a private garden hot tub and a two-person sea kayak, and consultancy on growing Melanosporum truffles is also offered.

We had a wonderful time in RiverRoad Retreat! Beautiful cottage, great views and impressive garden. Rebecca made us feel at home. She spoiled us with nice breakfasts and fruits from the garden. She helped us in every way she could. She prepared the hot tub under the stars, made diner reservations and came up with great suggestions for activities in Able Tasman NP.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful estate! It all started with the driveway lined with trees, followed by a welcome letter, and finally, we were greeted in the house with a stunning bouquet of flowers, wine, delicious cheese with bread, and olives. Rebecca and Peter were amazing hosts. Every morning, we were spoiled with an exceptional breakfast (e.g., fruit from their own garden, self-made granola, and local products), and their recommendations for activities and restaurants were excellent (including Blenheim). A true paradise! Thank you❣️

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at the River Road Retreat in Appleby. From the moment I arrived, Rebecca and Peter made me feel completely at home. They are incredibly kind and welcoming, going above and beyond to ensure their guests are comfortable. The location is stunning—peaceful, serene, and surrounded by beautiful scenery that invites you to relax and unwind. Waking up here feels like a dream. The breakfast was exceptional, prepared with care and served with a warmth that reflects the hosts’ genuine hospitality. Every detail of the stay felt thoughtful and personal, making it an unforgettable experience. If you’re looking for a place that feels like home while still offering a retreat in a beautiful setting, I cannot recommend River Road Retreat enough. Rebecca and Peter’s friendliness and the overall atmosphere make this place truly special. I will definitely be returning!
