Te Waikoropupu Springs
About
Te Waikoropupū Springs, also known as Pupu Springs, sit in Te Waikoropupū Springs Scenic Reserve in the Tākaka Valley, about six kilometres west of Tākaka township. They are the largest freshwater springs in New Zealand, discharging 14,000 litres of water per second, with water clarity measured by NIWA at 63 metres visibility. Māori regard the springs as a taonga and wāhi tapu; contact with the water is not permitted.

These springs are absolutely beautiful. Clearest water I’ve seen in my whole life. You can see so deep down to the bottom, it’s incredible! It’s a really nice, easy walk to get to them. And there are lots of informative signs at the parking lot explaining the history of the springs. Absolutely worth a visit.

A beautiful natural spring phenomenon being the second most clear lake in the world! Worth seeing early in the morning (7am) as it’s still & stunning with bird life!

Absolutely stunning! Very short walk there and the bush getting there is also gorgeous! The board walk makes for very easy walking :) Enjoy!
