The Craftsman Cafe is a small, family-run cafe at 92 Bateup Road in Richmond, opened by chef Rob and Jodi after relocating from Upper Moutere's North Eatery. It serves breakfast and lunch using organic, sustainable produce sourced from small local farms, in a casual setting. Rob is a Cuisine Top 100 Chef. Open Monday to Saturday mornings.
Great Customer service! Finally a cafe that doesn’t use sublime beans! Great coffee too, only note would be the Alternative milk could be a little more foamy for a Cap but thats probably the brand of milk. Apart from that couldn't get any better! Carrot cake was DELICIOUS! Had to fight my husband and baby for the last bite

Absolutely delicious food, the flavours were exquisite. Fantastic coffee and a very convenient kids menu. I would highly recommend this cafe.

The Craftsman Café reminds me of the bar in the TV show Cheers because the team are so friendly we are often greeted by them calling out our names when we arrive. They are always pleasant to deal with, the coffee is strong and hot, the beer is cold and hoppy, and the food is fresh and flavourful. I used to hate that the menu changes seasonally but now I’m always happy when old favourites leave and I find a new favourite. It’s one of the few places where changing the menu regularly actually keeps things interesting rather than disappointing. The menu tastes like it’s made with a real passion for fresh ingredients and variety. I genuinely think this may be one of Richmonds best kept secrets, but some days, you would think the whole town was there for lunch because it gets so busy. It’s hard to pick a favourite, but the Turkish Eggs and Avocado Toast are regular choices for me.

I’ve been to this cafe a few times now and I really like it here, they know me by name - how good, there is a antique shop attached to the cafe run by different people, both businesses are friendly and welcoming. The food is always hot, fresh and tasty, changing or not having something on/in your choice of food is no issue at all, I’d rather not have it then waste It when I know I’m not going to eat/enjoy that particular thing. Chai lattes are hot and great - bonus as I don’t drink coffee. Great amount of parking on site Friendly staff and owners Good menu selection - changes with the seasons, I’m slowly making my way through the menu choosing something different each time - this time the pork sandwhich; this is exactly what I’d expect if I was in Denmark and pretty much what I had when I was there in Dec-Jan, yummy!! Gravel carpark outside Inside has a accessible toilet and baby change table

What a lovely place. We stopped for breakfast and were impressed with the quality of the food and the coffee. A special mention must be made of the cinnamon buns. Heavenly!
