The Grove Scenic Reserve

Gorgeous walk through the Nikau palms. Some towering above are well over 100yrs old, right down to baby seedlings at your feet. Huge fronds on some compared to others I've seen elsewhere. Flat to slight incline to get to the lookout, but not too difficult. Take your time to look around at the beautiful limestone formations and don't forget to look up too. Doing the whole loop definitely worth it. No one else there when I visited late afternoon in late autumn.

A steady 35 minute walk with some steps near the lookout. Beautiful bush and birds and a great view across Golden Bay from the lookout! (No tickets required and good parking bay).

An amazing little stop off. A short walk that takes you through interesting rock formations with trees, root and vines growing through the rocks. The track then goes through a rock chasm and ends at a viewing platform. From here you get to see the steep cliff structures and a view out over the golden bay area. There is only a small carpark here so parking could be difficult during peak and for bigger vehicles such as large campers.

I highly recommend The Grove Track — it’s one of the few places in New Zealand where I’ve seen such uniquely stunning natural scenery. If you have the chance to visit the area, this short and easy hiking trail is truly worth your time. Some of the limestone here is millions of years old, and the unusual geological formations combined with the lush plants interwoven across the rock walls make you feel as if you’ve stepped through a time tunnel into a prehistoric world.
